Tryouts

Each year a tryout is held to decide which team the players will be apart of, Varsity or Junior Varsity. The tryouts usually last for 3 days and are from 8 A.M. until 3 P.M. and will include water breaks and a lunch break. Bringing your own lunch is required, but the coach will sometimes bring food to give to the players. During these three days, the coach will pair players up to play against each other and watch the match to see what each players strength and weakness is. After the second day, the coach will announce which players have made the Varsity, which is composed of the more skilled players, and the Junior Varsity, which is composed of the less skilled players. The third day is then dedicated to classifying each player as either a singles or doubles player. For singles, the singles players will play each other, and the player with the most wins will become the 1st singles while the playr with the least amount of wins will become the 4th singles. For doubles, the coach will pair up 2 players who he thinks are around the same skill level, and they will play each other. The doubles pair with the most wins at the end of the day will become the 1st doubles while the pair with the least amount of wins will become the 4th doubles. These positions are not final, and if a player with a lower rank wants to play better opponents, they can issue a challenge to the player ranked higher than them (ex. 4th singles player challenges 3rd singles player). If the lower ranked player wins, they will move up to the rank of the defeated player. If you have any additional questions about tryouts, ask a player or contact us using the number provided below.
